Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S.
Overview
Discover the transformative impact of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' initiative Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE) launched in 2020. This groundbreaking program aims to reduce new HIV infections by 90% by 2030, and we invite you to join us in this vital mission!
We collaborate with local partners and leaders from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program in the Midwest to tailor our efforts in seven key EHE Jurisdictions:
- Illinois: Cook County
- Indiana: Marion County
- Michigan: Wayne County
- Ohio: Cuyahoga County, Franklin County, and Hamilton County
- Missouri: (entire state)
MATEC offers specialized training and technical assistance to enhance the healthcare workforce's capacity to provide HIV-related services. Whether you're a new healthcare professional or a seasoned expert, our multidisciplinary programs focus on increasing access to HIV testing, treatment, PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis). We also prioritize combatting HIV stigma and breaking down non-medical barriers to care and addressing the intersecting syndemics of HIV, viral hepatitus, STIs, COVID, mpox, substance abuse, and mental health disorders.
Look at the progress being made across the nation in the Regional Champions: Building on Priniples of Ending the HIV Epidemic, which features outstanding achievements, including a spotlight on Corktown Health in Detroit. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also highlight success stories to maximize EHE's impact.

Primary Care HIV Prevention Initiative
Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) hold a unique position at the heart of underserved communities, making them vital players in the fight to end the HIV epidemic in America. Yet, many FQHCs face challenges in delivering effective HIV prevention services due to competing priorities and a lack of experience in this area.
Thanks to additional funding from the Bureau of Primary Health Care, the Primary Care HIV Prevention (PCHP) initiative is paving the way for FQHCs in the seven Midwest EHE jurisdictions to receive specialized training and technical assistance.
Join the HIV Prevention Learning Collaborative (HPLC), where you can participate in a transformative Design Sprint! Starting annually in October, this program guides clinic teams through a six-week virtual experience focused on identifying your priorities, developing tailored HIV prevention goals, and crafting actionable implementation plans.
Why should you participate?
• Empower Your Clinic: Gain confidence and expertise in providing essential HIV prevention services.
• Collaborate and Innovate: Connect with fellow FQHCs to share successes, address challenges, and brainstorm solutions collaboratively.
• Receive Ongoing Support: Enjoy customized assistance from MATEC local partners, ensuring you're never alone on this journey.
