Update to the Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in Adults and Adolescents with HIV

July 29, 2024: The Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in Adults and Adolescents with HIV have been updated.  

Leishmaniasis 
-Updated information on prevalence, including transmission in the United States. 
-Updated information on the use of polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, and serological tests for the diagnosis of leishmanial diseases. 
-Updated treatment regimens for each of the leishmanial diseases, including regimens that reduce the likelihood of recurrence. 
-Added new information about special considerations in pregnancy. 

These guidelines are published in an electronic format and updated as changes in prevention and treatment science occurs. All updates are developed by the subject matter groups listed in Appendix B. Guideline updates are reviewed by scientific content experts.
