The programs focus on a broad range of topics, from Cultural Competence and HIV Care to Managing Anti-Retroviral Drug Failure. Custom Training from MATEC Missouri

What We Do
We provide custom multidisciplinary HIV education/training and other support services to assist Missouri’s healthcare professionals in meeting the healthcare needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. Our group is committed to continuing with the rich tradition of working together with federal, state, or local organizations to ensure that Missouri’s healthcare professionals are optimally prepared and supported for dealing with the ongoing HIV epidemic. We tailor our programs to meet your needs.

Clinical Education and Training Programs
We offer comprehensive didactic and skill building programs led by expert clinicians and other health care professionals. Clinical preceptorships are provided through the MATEC affiliate sites. Our outreach services are available throughout the state and can often be done on-site. Examples of program topics include:

  • HIV prevention and testing
  • Pathogenesis and clinical course of infection
  • Epidemiology of HIV
  • Diagnosis and clinical management of HIV/AIDS
  • Antiretroviral therapy and opportunistic infection prophylaxis
  • Management of patient with comorbidities
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Oral health
  • Cultural competence in HIV service
  • Emerging HIV clinical issues
  • Medication issues, including adherence
  • Post exposure prophylaxis

Expert Clinical Consultation and Technical Assistance
We provide clinical consultation services to healthcare providers from local or regional experts by phone, fax or email. We also provide technical assistance to healthcare professionals and organizations for building capacity to provide HIV-related services.

STD Intensive

MATEC-Indiana has partnered with the "New York City STD HIV Prevention Training Center to offer a one-day course for clinical providers who provide STD care in Indiana. Course topics include prevention, diagnosis and management of STDs.

Course Objectives:

  1. Describe current STD screening strategies, diagnostic algorithms, and CDC treatment recommendations.
  2. Describe the public health aspects of STD care (e.g. optimal partner management; timely disease reporting).

Agenda:

Local STD/HIV experts will present the fundamentals of the following topics - STD Epidemiology; Sexual History Taking; Cervicitis, PID, Urethritis & Other GC/Chlamydia Infection; Vaginitis; HPV and HPV Vaccine; HSV and Syphilis.

Continuing Medical Education:

CME (Physicians):This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and NYC PTC. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CNE (Nurses/Nurse Practitioners): The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This activity provides 6.2 nursing contact hours.

IACET CEU: The CDC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. The CDC is authorized by IACET to offer 0.6 ANSI/IACET CEU's for this program.
